About the AAPTA

The American Association of Professional Technical Analysts (AAPTA) is a nonprofit organization formed in 2004 for experienced professionals applying Technical Analysis to the financial markets.  AAPTA's membership spans the U.S., creating a community of professionals who understand and implement technical analysis for the benefit of their clients and the investment community, and value the ability to share insights, tools, charts and analysis with peers throughout the industry to challenge thought processes and explore new ideas.

Technical Analysis utilizes only market information, such as price, volume, volatility and open derivative contracts, in a systematic method of analyzing financial investments.  Analysis is a discipline applied worldwide. In today’s global financial markets, Technical Analysts utilize computer-driven programs to analyze data for forecasting and timing trading and investment in financial instruments such as equities, debt securities, futures, options, commodities, currencies, ETFs and foreign markets.

Perhaps the earliest recorded use of Technical Analysis dates back to the 1700s with the development of candlestick analysis to trade rice contracts in Japan. With electronic markets proliferating and the number of market participants increasing on a global scale, Technical Analysis has gained mainstream acceptance. But as its practitioners know, the sophistication and development of analytical techniques and applications is rapidly expanding. AAPTA provides a means to share ideas, information, research, and analytical techniques in an atmosphere of openness, trust and cooperation.

Through its online forum, monthly teleconferences, annual brainstorming session and conference, AAPTA offers its members a forum to discuss observations, discoveries and concerns in a private, yet open and intellectually stimulating environment.
